What should I sew?

Post by m o l l y »

I am not well versed enough in message board etiquette to know if this is topic is too specific and self serving, but here goes:

If you were going to sew your dream article of clothing or practical household thing, what would it be? I would love some inspiration!

I would like to contribute, just for context, that Molly is an excellent seamstress. Seamster? Sewer? What’s the gender neutral term here?

Man those pants you described in the other thread sound so good- I'd probably sew those! :) Otherwise it'd be shift dresses and swing dresses in like, raw silk. Keep us updated on what you make!

Aw shucks, Clag. That's downright complimentary.
For the record, I think I usually say sewist? Sewer has pretty weird implications. And yeah, it is pretty lamely gendered. A "tailor" brings to mind someone with a much greater skill-set than a "seamstress." Same vibe as "chef..."

Thanks for the input, Willow!!

Molly isn’t a sewer! Sewers are gross and Molly is v cool.

Molly — what if something for warmer times that has great pockets? I love my winter coat where I can fit a book in the pocket, but summer Matthew has no book pocket. What if tho!

Yeah, great idea thanks, Matthew (also hi!!!)! I have been thinking about making a kinda bare-bones workman's button-up canvas jacket with like 3 or 4 big patch pockets which would def fit a book (three in front and one inside?). I already have the pattern sitting and waiting for me. Just waiting for the right fabric to fall from the sky! I'm inspired. Gonna make this happen.
