What's your favorite country song?
Working on a DJ set for Europeans who mostly think every country song is by Dwight Yoakham. Deep cuts and old favorites welcome!

Re: What's your favorite country song?
I was turned onto this song by Henry Rollins' excellent KCRW show; I think he described it as George Straight plucking emotions gently from a overripe fruit tree, which is it. This whole era of George Straight's a gut-puncher. I listen to a lot of classic country when I'm gardening, for some reason.
Re: What's your favorite country song?
not a deep cut by any means but I had the Nashville soundtrack on constant rotation two winters ago, my fave song on it:

Damn, what a great song. I'm putting this soundtrack right on, y'all. It looks like it is on her album, "Welcome." Was it written for the film though?

Friend of the board Kyle Field does a great cover of this one, but it's a great tune by itself.

I like this ditty because it’s about leering at hot telephone operators and I spent most of 2020 researching telephone history for an article that will finally see the light of day next month:

Hot hits! Gram is always high on the list for me and it's always nice to be able to recommend a friend of the board. I listened to the last Little Wings album after hearing these two. Pretty one.
And Belles of the Southern Bell *chef's kiss*. Nothing beats a great country western music pun.
I cannot get enough of this at the moment:

Re: What's your favorite country song?
Currently listening to Episode 63: Walking. Each episode is a great themed mixtape interspersed with scripted rants, anecdotes and explanations in the truly exceptional voice of Bob Dylan. What a man.
Re: What's your favorite country song?
There's a contemporary country person that I really like, Orville Peck. He's a beautiful gay cowboy with a deeeeeeep baritone voice. He's on Sub Pop!

Re: What's your favorite country song?
re: Ronee Blakley/My Idaho Home, I wasn't sure so fired up trusty Wikipedia and here's what it says:
That same year, Blakley appeared in what may be her most widely known performance in Nashville. Her character, Barbara Jean, looked similar to country star Loretta Lynn, though Blakley stated that the character was based on Lynn Anderson. Blakley performed her own songs in character, including "Tapedeck In His Tractor," "Dues" and "My Idaho Home."
found the original version from Welcome and it's so much faster! still beautiful but I love the leisurely crooney pace of the movie version.

Oh, love it! Funny too, I've been rocking out to this one.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DcdONaKSQM
"This old maternity dress I've got
Is goin' in the garbage
The clothes I'm wearin' from now on
Won't take up so much yardage
Miniskirts, hot pants and a few little fancy frills
Yeah I'm makin' up for all those years
Since I've got the pill"
I mean, god bless this woman. How many rural American girls do you think learned about the pill from this song?!

am reading Eve Babitz's Slow Days, Fast Company and the chapter titled Heroine is about thinly veiled version of Ronee Blakley named Terry Finch!

Re: What's your favorite country song?
@infopedal, Idaho Home is on my "listen to more or less every day" mix. But man, all three of the Ronee Blakley songs on the Nashville soundtrack are so so so good. I listened to Dues on repeat while cooking chili the other evening until I could sing the whole thing from memory.
