Dreams
Re: Dreams
I dreamed Gary came in and told us our paper delivery guy Wayne (with whom we have a long, confusing, and tortured relationship (a few years ago he left us a LONG letter just ripping into us for never tipping him, which (perhaps foolishly/blithely) we had never realized was A Thing One Can Or Should Do, so now we tip him $50 a year and he leaves us these weird handwritten thank you notes that feel very passive aggressive and stressful)) had quit, and the new guy had said Wayne had told him he "couldn't handle all this," and I didn't know whether he meant us, specifically, as customers, or working during COVID.
Re: Dreams
I volunteered for a fundraiser and was cast as a clown. I lost my colorful clown wig before the show and everyone laughed at me because I was in full clown makeup and costume but my hair was all gray!
Re: Dreams
My brother in law showed up with a humongous whoopie cushion that was the size of the whole yard. We filled the center indentation with water and it became a pool, but I’d forgotten my trunks and only had a one piece women’s swimming suit (black with frills). When I woke I was considering changing into it next to my 4Runner even though logging trucks were zooming by and I’d most likely be harassed.
Re: Dreams
I'm reading a great book related to this content: https://archive.org/details/3rdreichofdreams.
I always have crazy dreams and I write them down every morning. I had a funny one with infopetal in it the other day:
At some book festival browsing. Knock over a big display. Waiting for help to fix. "Leave it!" "My bags under there!" Another associate takes my bags in another area then shows me this soundproof room under the table. They start speaking and K says "I can hear you guys!" Laughing. Associate asks "What about now?" K "Yep" Assc says "Amazon is full of lies!" We all laugh. K says "Which lie are you mad about?"

I always wanted Comptroller to mean Computer Controller but I don't think that's what it is
Re: Dreams
You'd be a much better mayor, so I support this dream as a potential reality.

yourfriendclaire for mayor!!

I had a dream I was cooking thanksgiving dinner for a group of people, but when it came time to make the mashed potatoes I made the good potatoes instead.
In the majority of dreams in recent years I struggle to open my eyes, have blurred vision or am blind. Eeeep

I had a dream that my late grandfather put a pile of steaks (??) on my parents’ cat. He also dipped his paws in soup. Afterwards the cat was all squished and wet and strange bugs were coming in and out of his nose.
Re: Dreams
Bugs in Bug?? Booo!
Re: Dreams
My cat woke me up from a dream in which I had just entered a dark, empty, haunted bathroom. Big ups to cat!

Had a dream that the social media personality "The Fat Jewish" was making a comeback after an unspecified disgrace by training three small white mice to do a breakdancing routine with him.

Had a dream I visited infopetal in New York only it was the grittier New York City seen in the American cinema of the 1970s. We went to a diner/luncheonette where she was a regular and ate prodigiously large hamburgers and cupcakes. Later we walked around the city and infopetal insisted we wear silicone oven-mitts as gloves for COVID safety.
Re: Dreams
Any chance your dreams were influenced by Rodger's luncheonette on New Lots Ave?

Re: Dreams
I hadn’t thought of that, but YES! I also think the silicone oven-mitt thing comes from an early-quar suggestion by (ex-???) boardie ritchey about using them to plunge your hands into boiling water while canning tomatoes. Board dreams! I swear I do look at other things online.
Re: Dreams
I had an extremely hilarious self-doubt/feeling shrimpy dream that combined all previous typical symbols and added more.
I wasn't dressed
I couldn't walk
I couldn't talk
AND I couldn't see!
After being accidentally nude, my next most-common theme is the can't-walk. In these dreams I am super floppy and so dizzy that I can't stand. When I try to walk I am like a greased bumper car, helplessly running into people and sliding away. I'm really embarrassed... "ha, don't mind me, I have extreme vertigo! Ack, sorry, whoaoaoaaaa!" It's completely the emotional truth of how I feel about myself and my capabilities in the world (I'm rusty).

Re: Dreams
Two skateboarding dreams recently:
1) I went back in time to the early 80s and made my own board shapes so I could do "modern" tricks and blow people's minds
2) I entered a skate contest in some small town and won $500.
In dreams I can do like, any trick I want, it's pretty cool.
Also had a dream about going with Sasha to a tiny Japanese restaurant (maybe in a non-existent city??) where all they served were veggie dogs wrapped in seaweed and plates of clams.
I've never been to Japan, but maybe this could exist?

Re: Dreams
I'd like to trade for Alex's dreams.
I dreamt last night I was in a plummeting elevator death scenario, but at the point when I should have died everything went kaleidoscopic/psychedelic and I realized it was a dream and watched the kaleidoscope for a while.
Today in waking life I was exchanging propane tanks at Walgreen and a homeless man repeatedly told me I was going to blow up with them in the car. EEEEEK. Ominous stuff.
Does anyone do anything to try to remember dreams? If I wake up between 2 and 4 and go back to sleep my dreams are vivid and easy to remember. I heard that keeping a smell thing (lavender or something?) under your pillow and smelling it when you wake can help you recall them.

I feel like w0lf is good at remembering dreams. maybe my @-ing her will summon her as just happened with richjensen over in West Coast Fog.

also still processing yourfriendclaire's dream ft. me, which continues to crack me up! I now think of it every time I pass a diner. imagining a Girlfriends (1978) vibe:

Re: Dreams
I'm always stunned at w0lf's capacity to remember dreams. It's a question of getting into the habit of jotting them down first thing, and developing a style for it. Is anything more evanescent than the memory of a dream? I've been saying for years that I'd like to get into the habit of writing them down. Whenever I'm able to do it I find that the dream becomes the seed of a proper thought, a story, a song, who knows! I like the idea of making my brain do the creative work while I sleep! Meditation does something similar.
Anyway infopetal I wish written down my dream ft. you, because I'm certain there were more colorful details that would have given us both a good laugh in the cold light of morning. Also I love Girlfriends (1978). An early pandemic viewing for me. We sure have cranked through some cinema this year.
A friend of the board told me last night that dreams (and particularly nightmares) are your brain pooping—processing trauma, allowing you to work through things. Free therapy, basically.

Re: Dreams
marijke I mostly have nightmares, it's a rare occasion that I have nice dreams.
Last night I dreamt that I was injected with toxic dye, both by right wing fascists AND moderate Democrats. It really, really hurt, but I woke up before I died. No need for interpretation there.

EEEEP! alexshred420
Yes I relate. Most of mine I'd describe as disturbing rather than "nightmare", like dread rather than terror. I have a recurring dream in which the house is on fire but everyone is acting like things are normal and playing cards at the table. Another recurring is that my sister has no bones and I am carrying around her skin trying to protect her and make sure she is all stretched out and no one squishes her up.
MAN I LOVE DREAMS. For sure your mind just working things out free therapy style. And yes, write them down! Sometimes I find a scrap of paper with a dream written in detail from many years ago and it's a treat.
I can do lucid dreaming, but it's never like having dream omnipotence... I'm sure that says a lot about my psyche.

Re: Dreams
I write them in my notes app or right into twitter, since my phone is usually closer to me in the night/early morning than paper is (sad).

Re: Dreams
Wow this whole time I was musing “I need to get a small dream notebook and whimsical pen for dream journaling,” meanwhile I look at my phone for an hour every morning immediately after my eyeball flesh hits the sunlight
Re: Dreams
It would be so much nicer to put it into a tiny notebook though! Maybe I'll do it, get a special tiny book for the bedside instead of just tweeting, texting, or noting my dreams to a screen.
Re: Dreams
I googled "whimsical pen" and found some options for you:

I am going to imagine you waking up and wrestling this stupid pencil to write something like "aliens... asking me about cereal" etc

Re: Dreams
When I was 15 my friend Bridgette told me a story that has evidently made me somewhat superstitious of dream journaling. Her mom knew a guy who started writing down his dreams. He began to be so attuned to the sleep-wake moment that he turned to his bedside table once or twice a night... until he wrote down his dreams so often, he couldn't sleep longer than a couple of hours!
Sharing that here is why I appreciate this board.

infopetal those are fun pens! Pretty sure I had a “naughty” one in high school that I bought at a ‘90s-alternative-style gift shop in Portland called Wham! Any Portland heads remember Wham!? I used to buy pranks there, as a kid, and I have a very vivid memory of being shamed by an employee for looking at a sexy greeting card in the back of the store. “What would your mother think?”

Re those pens: Yes. The best. You can still buy a weird one at the Museum of Jurassic Technology. Why do they always work very poorly?
Re Wham!: We had one at the Park Mall called Spencer's. What a tweenage dream. It is where I got all of my best-friends necklaces and black lights. Their logo:

oh yeah, yourfriendclaire, I have definitely spent some time at Wham. There were a lot of slightly racy items! Appropriate for a teen maybe, but not for a child. And yet, they sold silly putty and toys. I think she should have let you look!

Re: Dreams
meadows It was a male employee, which made it more of a psyche-affecting event. Spencer’s at the mall had that racy greeting card section, too, in the back among the marital aids, penis-shaped bachelorette party ephemera, and other items of crass sexual humor. What a weird overlap. Maybe it says something about American society that human sexuality is classed among such cheap novelties...hidden away and belittled.
ANYWAY I had a dream last night that David Lynch carried me around on his shoulders, and when he let go I was still floating in the air.

Re: Dreams
I want a floaty pen too! I wonder if its possible to have them produced, to design one?

Re: Dreams
if our board had a floaty pen souvenir what would its design be? mostly gum related?
Re: Dreams
Would it slowly spell out the word gum with a Yorkshire accent? And be clacky light-up keyboard colors?
Re: Dreams
I think the floaty pen should have some kind of useless, complicated tech feature--like an LED that blinks once after recording the peak high temperature for the day in Las Cruces, NM, for example.
