It should also be very fun to “dismantle” the pen. Like when you take apart a clicky pen to reveal the tiny spring, then put it back together? There should be some kind of Easter egg inside that’s only revealed when you take the pen apart.

Also the liquid should be edible, in case of emergency.

I had _another_ dream about getting poisoned by the US government last night, this time it was the "3 old white men who run the government" poisoning me in their "office". Started making choking noises in my sleep and Sasha woke me up :grimace:

Solidarity with everyone’s REM sleep disorder behaviors.

On a serious note, if you have more than 1 sleep-thrashing incident in a week, go to a sanitarium because you’re wayyy overloaded!!

If anyone incorporates pharm into their life, prazosin helps

Last night I dreamt that I was at a water park with my Dad. I was out of the water and waiting for him to come down a water slide that emptied into a small pool. He came down the slide holding a newspaper open and pretending to be casually reading it (good bit) and I laughed. Then, as the slide dumped him out he was caught off guard, he fumbled with the paper and bonked his head/face on the wall that was much too close to the opening of the slide.

Also a water dream, but anxiety. I was a last minute fill-in for some community theater Shakespeare production. My lines were written in chalk on a small rock. The stage was an outcropping of rocks in a room full of water. By the time I swam to the stage my lines had washed off the rock and I knew not what to do. I said one line I remembered, out of context, and swam away.

In another dream I ate peanut butter chocolate pie in IKEA.

I visited an ancient city I’ve never heard of with a name like “Algernathy” or “Dungeness.” In the middle of the city was a massive field of dry tall grass full of wild horses. I ran into a young Bill Murray, who was wearing a purple raw silk button-up and a pair of black board shorts that appeared to be a promotional item for the movie Alien. He says they were his mother’s. We talk about the movie. I tell him how we did a live score for it at LACMA a few years ago and that after watching it 25 times I can attest that it’s the perfect film, “all killer no filler!”

I would just like to share this here.

Last night I dreamed I was flying over river and lake and sea, and I got freaked out when I saw huge eels on the surface of the water. That stuff just creeps me out, I get freaky ocean creatures all the time in dreams. *

FYI, most of my dreams take place in an otherworldly close-in NW Portland and/or sci-fi mar**** hill. It’s probably because I spent so much time on the bus traveling through those places, to a job that stressed me out.

I bet people who work and study at OH** have similar dreams to mine–a subconscious simulation of a mysterious lab on a labyrinthine hill.

Do you find that architecture has a strong influence on your dreams?

*the other cool part of my dream, was kind of like a video game in the night sky. I had to lock on to war planes above me and launch a missle attack, which made me super dizzy in the dream. Very much like if you’ve ever watched a fireworks display and have gotten nauseous from the optical illusion that the designs are coming towards you in space.

Oof, I used to have a recurring ocean creatures thing in dreams—not so much known sea monsters as much as amorphous sea beings with rubbery bodies the texture of a geoduck's neck-skin?

Had a couple weird ones this week myself:

- Bafflingly erotic dream about the actor Paul Bettany, about whom I have zero feeling whatsoever

- One about a small town zoo that opened up onto a vast Borgesian shopping mall fifty stories high

- One about needing to go outside to put a fine parma ham in the garage in the middle of the night; outside shapeless dark forms fell from the sky and later some kind of paranormal expert informed me that these were "category four events" and that the garden was some kind of "lobby" for such phenomena

Yeah, lobby was from the dream! It seemed like a technical term.

Last night: me and my two female roommates are pitching some important guy a new game. I’ve sort of forgotten the rules but I’m blazing ahead. It’s chess but you play it with the pieces in a dish in two inches of water and there’s a “wizard” piece. The guy is not impressed and to emphasize his point grabs a potted tree in our living room out by the roots. I go completely ballistic and tell him I can’t abide anyone who doesn’t respect living beings. I tell him to fuck off and for some reason that means we all have to move out.

Unwanted glimpse of the future (present?)

I checked into a hotel only to find that it was an open floor plan hostel. An abominable combination of rentable office space, AirBnB ethos, sharing economy, tiny house, scarcity world.

The “hotel rooms” filled a floor of an office building. Each “room” consisted of cubicle walls or cage-like modular pieces, with bunks. There was little to no privacy.

On an adjacent floor was a warehouse-type store where you could buy your own cubicle walls and cage panels.

I know people already live like this—in shelters, in group bunk housing for workers. I guess the dream takes it further by imagining that there is no other option, businesses have maximized profit and minimized humanity across the board. Only the very, very wealthy can afford a private furnished room of any type.

RAndom funny bit:

I was in an elevator and the doors were about to close when a very confident, independent little toddler raced ahead of his family and walked in by himself. I scrambled to keep the elevator open so his family wouldn’t lose him.

I had an adult version of the classic school dream - it was one week into the semester and I realized I was supposed to be teaching 7 different 300 level classes but hadn't attended any of them or prepared anything. I showed my course list to another older and wiser professor who reviewed it and confirmed I was completely unqualified for the job. She pointed out a mythologies course and ominously said "ALL of my graduate students take this course".

Most other dreams involve deep bodies of water or cliffs/chasms that turn into oceans.

@rch I like that your toddler and elevator dream seems so... innocent? Not loaded? Just a charming vignette.

I dreamed I had inherited an estate of some kind that mainly consisted of animals. Most of the excitement/stress was centered around the large green parrot that had his own climbing/play tower. But in the evening I was drinking beers on the big high porch with "friends" (people I do not actually know in real life, including a semi-erotic cheek to cheek moment with a handsome single father)" and a baby skunk that I apparently also now owned came to hang out with us, along with the tiniest palm-sized fluffy white kitten that I mistook for a toy.
I assume the skunk came straight outta the gardening thread, @RCH.

Dreams have been extra-vivid and bombastic lately, disorienting me for some time after wakening.

But, observing like a scientist:
This morning when I woke up, my eyes were in full hallucination-mode for several minutes.

Have you ever noticed that, when you are in a car looking at the road, your eyes "get used to" expecting the fast-moving angles of the road? Then when you stop driving, everything in your vision tries to rush to a vanishing point?

It was like that but with no perspective--very much like the way AI cuts and pastes existing images together to create new ones.

I watched as closely as I could to take notes. It was amazing how my open eyes were seeing a real shadow, but then trying to make it move and flow into other shapes. Psychedelic but lucid.

Dreamed I was eating New York Cheddar Kettle Chips in my dream last night. There were other things too, but I woke up wanting those chips. Unfortunately only have Jalapeño Kettle Chips rn and we're stuck in our house cause of snow and ice.

Dream dump

Heavenly cloud scene, with INXS muzak score. That's a good one from my subconscious.

A number of David dreams lately. I feel/remember her presence. Very comforting. I also dream of dogs a lot, who frequently bite but then turn into my buddies.

Ever since I lost my apartment, my home in dreams is almost always a funky commune. Don't know what that means! This is random, but another frequent theme is that I remember that I have a vehicle or apartment I forgot about. I'm always like, "how am I going to come up with rent??"

I've had a resurgence of vertigo dreams, now with loss of eyesight. It's such a drag, I dream I bounce and glide everywhere like a pinball without control. 20-69% of my dreams are ragdoll physics scenarios, where I can't even sit in a chair without bouncing out, or have a conversation with someone without melting to the floor. What's up with that and how can I convince my subconscious I still posses fine motor skills?

The other recent dream thing is meta-dreaming. I dream I'm in a lucid dream, then I wake up and remember the dream and it becomes real, etc. That can be just a bit confusing and disorienting.

Sorry if this sounds so nightmarish! I'm mostly OK, it's just that my body processes stress right into my REM brain. Work in progress!

I happen to be up into early morning now; my sleep was disrupted a couple days ago and I stayed up late yesterday. Can anyone else relate, or am I a freak?

Here's my cool sleep theory/question:
- Could REM sleep have provided a springboard for Homo sapiens?

@RCH I buy that theory! Maybe it dovetails with my favorite theory of human development, Terrence McKenna's "Stoned Ape" hypothesis, that early Homo sapiens came across shrooms sprouting from dung piles in the veldt and the psychedelic experience gave them (us) the capacity for abstract thought, spirituality, and artistic representation. Maybe shrooms taught us to dream. They would!

I have slept a straight 9 hours every night of my life, like a log. Impossible to raise me preemptively. My mom is a lifelong insomniac, claims to only sleep 2 hours a night. I worry so much about her brain, but I guess she's made it this far without losing her marbles...

Last night I had a dream that all my college friends and I started an agrarian commune in an abandoned gated community. Locked the gates, pulled up the asphalt, built gardens, the whole nine, I remember thinking (in the dream) "so this is what it feels like to enjoy work" as we dug around and planted. Then a band of marauders arrived with guns! We fanned out to all corners of the property while our most diplomatic friend (early boardie and Bread Dad @mrbrown) tried to talk some sense. I was staked up on a parapet with my friend Joel, a party maniac who now lives in Berlin, in sniper mode. After a firefight, we watched the marauders take our friends away in a bus. In the ruins of our utopia, later, I found photos of all our stolen friends on the website of some kind of centrist cultural nonprofit which limply advocated for the potential of crypto-art. They were on the board of directors!!! Is that a 2021 dream or what

This sounds very Octavia Butler, Parable of the Sower.

I am also a real "sleeper." Apparently, parents used to lose me when I learned to crawl and find me under the crib, asleep.

Nowadays, with house renovation (destruction) happening there are a lot of VERY dull terror dreams. I dreamt a contractor picked out and installed a very boring/ugly toilet and I had to pretend to be pleased so I didn't hurt his feelings. What even is an ugly toilet??

Had a real wild series of dreams, featuring:

- Being a cyborg/wizard who could control everything that happened in a huge theater building with the help of a visible-to-me mandala of light on the ceiling. (I had to build an extra false ceiling on every floor to get away with it undetected)

- Defending my office space from an AI who lived in the building and would send creepy videos of themselves as a face through the meeting room projectors.

- A classic "I can't get home and all of the buses are messed up" dream. My dream brain still thinks I live in Portland. One of the repeating aspects of this dream is that I'm trying to go to North Portland from downtown but I end up in Vancouver or further in the sticks. Telling myself, "you're dreaming, just BE on the 44 bus!" And for some reason, my dream brain thinks this means "being on the Max that goes underwater."

In my dream-Vancouver, the river is like a sea and the Max track just goes right in. It gives me an in-dream panic attack (but somewhat hilariously, I always react with strong coping skills). In this dream, it was night time, and I could see downtown Vancouver in the distance as being all Halloween-themed. Enormous grinning pumpkin reflecting on the narrow inland sea. Ugh!

That first one sounds very fun, and that second one sounds basically like a pretty accurate representation of how quar life is.

I have a similar sort of recurring "lost in the PNW" dream where I am in Portland and/or Seattle and need to get back to the Bay Area but can't keep track of when my flight is or where I am staying, and get sidetracked by trying to decide where to eat or figure out what the streets are named. It often ends with deciding to walk across town, but has also ended with me driving a car off a really steep dirt bike ramp and flying up into the air (in that version there is freeway exit near the Moda center that just opens into a large dirt field with, apparently, a big dirt ramp).

Any vaxxed friends in here experiencing an uptick in wild dreams? I got my second Pfizer shot last week and it's been blockbuster season in the ol' subconscious ever since. Lots of vivid stress dreams (the TSA is searching my bag and I KNOW I have weed, I've shown up to the Grammy awards in cotton slacks covered in cat-hair, etc). Last night I dreamt I went to see an entire MUSICAL PRODUCTION based on the French Netflix show Call My Agent!, which inexplicably was done in the style of a Philip Glass opera.

In the "real world," or fake world as it really is, it rained all night. Drip drop splish splash. So in my dream, I heard it as David drinking from her water bowl. Some part of me kept hearing the water and in the dream I was like "babe you're so thirsty today!" :-D :-D :-D

Last night I dreamt that I was supposed to play bass for Mazzy Star at some outdoor show. I was sitting in a living room with Hope Sandoval learning the bass parts (which were luckily pretty easy because I haven't played bass in like 15 years) but my brother kept coming in and trying to distract me.

I'm a bit late, but I hope the moon sight project finds its way to reality somehow.

So many monster-invasion dreams for me, all so similar. It starts off as life as normal, living in the neighborhood, but then everyone seeks shelter in more secure buildings. Last night's monster was a 15' tall green tentacled being, just a mass of differently-sized tentacles, including very long, thin ones that could pierce through buildings and seek warm bodies!

Also there were 20' yetis!

Something good is that I have a lot of love in my dreams--friendship, social-community, and romantic. At some point over the past few years, I decided a solution for loneliness was to just skip the middleman and produce love-feelings myself, so clearly it's been integrated into my brains.
