For the record: the movie is MR. MOM (1983)
According to IMdB, the official French title was "Señor Splat."

Re: Guess The Movie
France is legendarily weird at renaming American movies. I remember walking through Paris in the early oughts and being stopped dead in my tracks by posters for the French import of the movie Mean Girls (2004), which was renamed "Lolita Malgré Moi." LOLITA DESPITE MYSELF???
Re: Guess The Movie
Hahahaha
This isn’t as funny but I was just thinking about how when I was in Paris I posted something somewhere about the new Adam Sandler movie, “Friends Forever,” and Steve was like I think that is a weird French title, it’s actually called “Grownups,” and it was amazing what an abrupt difference it made in how I parsed the movie poster (all those guys laughing going down a water slide). I’d thought it seemed kind of sweet! But no, it was just Man Baby stuff as per usual. FRIENDS FOREVER

I've got more stills cued up and ready to go if y'all need clues!
Re: Guess The Movie
In Spain in the oughts you had the opposite deal where all film titles were translated to the most literal basic concept of the film. The only one I remember is "Rosemary's Baby" was "El Niño del Diablo"
Re: Guess The Movie
Not Austin Powers
Re: Guess The Movie
For the record, I was joking about the French title being "Señor Splat."
It was a very good joke.

It’s not Withnail and I, but I like that guess.
This shot may seem obtuse, but is in fact a key plot point!

Re: Guess The Movie
ah by HH i meant the director's initials. but man that would be a LOT of new flesh giblets if all those TVs started popping off
HH = a hometown icon of outer boroughs/LI filmmaking, but not in the horror/weirdo vein that i personally know better off-hand. which is why i asked my boys chat, because both those dudes have been telling to watch this movie specifically(!) for a while now, it turns out

No it is not Videodrome!
Yes it is a HH film! jamessumneriii it sounds like you got the hint/answer/cheat code you needed but lemme just post one more clue to see if anyone can actually guess it (this one really gives it away):

and for good measure/MD appreciation:

Re: Guess The Movie
Well, from Google "cheating" I figured out HH is Hal Hartley, which means it can only be one of two movies starring Martin Donovan (Flirt or Amateur?) but I really think the win should go to jamessumneriii for knowing any of this without looking it up
