That is an agave, not a cactus. I say with peace and love!

We rode by the agave yesterday as well. It's become a Portland phenomenon, hard to social distance around it TBH.

Yes. It is crowded at all hours. I've had to get creative for my runs and sanity strolls as I am between it and Holgate. The residents of Loretta's first cousin down the street (both the SRO and 1 bedroom people) are not distancing at all and that whole end of my block is crowded during the day.

I saw this plump mouse munching a seed in the flowers at the lake yesterday. It didn’t scurry away for some reason, either oblivious, blind, ill, or overconfident. I almost stepped on it before I noticed.

After a gorgeous sunset drive in the heights, I rounded a curve and saw three teenage girls, each dressed in black, roller skating/blading in the middle of the street.

We went on our first hike in a long-ass while (trails reopened, plus there was a good and unexpected rain this AM which we figured would weed out more casual hikers). I couldn’t breathe the mountain air in deep enough! When it rains in LA the hills get this intoxicating sagey petrichor smell. The monkey flowers and buckwheat were in bloom and the sky was clear and fluffy with cloud. Hawks doing breezeplay. Twinkling raindrops in the brush. Saw two lizards. Non-native wild mustard was in flower so the hills were ablaze with yellow.

On our evening dog walk I was walking with shame for forgetting my mask when SUDDENLY in the yard I was approaching I saw a 2' weed being pulled under the very see-through metal fence with no creature in sight! Of course it was a gopher but for about a second my mind didn't know and that was the highlight of my day.

OK technically this might not belong here .....because I was driving....

The other night I was driving home on the 5 freeway and in front of me was a car full of Armenian dudes who were leaning out of the windows. In their hands were big bunches of red balloons.
I immediately thought, "whoa their car looks like the CoronaVirus!" Suddenly one of them
started popping the balloons with a needle and they were all cheering and laughing and swerving!
I changed lanes and slowed down so I could still see the show but then they stopped suddenly on the freeway and almost got into a crash. It went from weird and funny to scary real quick. But also...a beautiful thing?

There was a Brussels critical mass this evening. The ring around the center of the city is about 5 miles and kinda vaguely heart-shaped. The idea was for everyone to start biking the ring in either direction at 6:00 pm and slowly build up a bunch of people drawing a heart around Brussels on their bikes. There were a lot of bikes!

Pedestrians/cyclists have priority in the whole center starting last week. Cars are only allowed to go 12.5 mph and have to let bikes or pedestrians just be in front of them. All traffic lights are blinking yellow lights. After biking around the ring, we went zig-zagging through the center to enjoy getting to be wherever we want in the streets. It was great to be part of a thing with other human people.

Also today was the first day that the number of deaths in Belgium was on par with that they are on a normal pre-covid day! Huzzah!

Still shocked when I see trees in Texas. Every time. I think cause growing up in England I thought it was a place with only cacti, rock, and sand.

Computer, enhance!

Anyone else noticing that six+ months of quar has changed the way your neighborhood looks?

Lots more victory gardens, more porch seats, more front yard kiddie pools (& in my neighborhood anyway) lots more driveway entrepreneurship: walk-up pupusa and taco stands, hella yard sales, and one lady a few blocks over has a whole front-yard succulent/plant retail empire growing, with tables and tables of seedlings and mini-cacti for sale. I like it.

It didn't look sit-able, more like gently balanced and upright as a performance of its former chairness.

Two dog stories (you may have heard them before, sorry):

1) the time a wiener dog and her wiener puppy were running through traffic on a main road and I tried to help. I clicked my hazards, pulled over safely, and went onto the sidewalk to lure them with french fries. The puppy ran right up to me but the mom continued to run around the street. Pup safely engaged, I tried to win her over again, and she ran up to me, barked fiercely, then ran over to another nearby house and barked at a dog that was looking out of a window!! It was so chaotic and goofy. Their people arrived in a car and took them right then!?

2) Turning onto W Burnside, I saw a lady carrying a big Pizza Schmizza box and talking on the cell phone WHILE holding her dog on a leash. Obviously this couldn't last. She got to the corner and as if in slow motion, I saw the pizza slide out of the box and the big dog lunge forward, inhaling half of it before it hit the pavement!!

I can't believe I'm doing this, but:

The other night I dreamed I saw two people and two dogs rolling down the street on a longboard (the dogs were both standing up so everyone fit).
