Bug is a good cat. He would lick your popsicle if you turned your head for a second.

I can’t remember how we got out of that particular pickle but I have a distinct memory of finding Baz and putting him in the car and him doing that uncanny things cats do when they’re stressed where they kind of open their mouths and...smile?
Man that was truly a CAPER. Baz got out and had NEVER been out. We all went out to look for Baz? Anyway it ended up with me, holding my cat outside of my locked apartment building. Then we (you and Evan and I?) got in the car and Baz was sitting above the backseat just SMILING full on teeth-grin horror. He was truly terrified. I think we met Luc in like parking lot somewhere to get keys? But GOD, why?!

this is about David!

It has been almost 3 months since she has had her final say. I miss her so much; sometimes I’m like a little baby who had her candy taken. ;-)

I know this is corny but I will tell you how I find comfort. I remember the times we were together, and I know they represent a continual progression in 4D terms, and that in remembering, I am able to enjoy a direct, material connection back to the best of the time we shared together!

To little DD, a most loving friend and companion who was a god among cats

Ps how is tawny Bug?

DD truly lucked out on this mortal coil, to hang her basket to your star.

Bug is okay! My parents, going through old photos I took with Bug when he was only a little kitten living in my college-years chaos house, recently realized he’s older than they thought (16, we think) which has quickened their hearts and their worry. He’s scrawny and whines all the time and poops “out of the box,” as old cats do. But he’ll be loved until his dying day, which is all we can hope for in this life.

Good old man! Please accept my old-age cat toileting tip: when it was uncomfortable for David to take the fussy high steps into her usual box, I switched to a giant storage box lid. They are larger than a litter box but the sides only go 1–2 inches. Wrap that in a plastic garbage bag, fill with litter. She tracked very little litter out of the tray because it was so easy to step into, and she had a lot of space to get her old bones situated. I don’t know if that makes sense but it was easy to keep clean and the cat appreciated it.

The last few weeks, I’ve had some stressful nightmares of trying to find David. I realize she’s not around and I’m like She must be outside! Long dreams of trying to cover Portland block by block, calling her name. Sometimes in the dream I find her and I have a loony time of “is this a dream? It feels real. But I know she died, I saw it, didn’t I??” etc. I am taking extra no-nightmare medicine and cleaning up my sleep hygiene. No haunting please David

I'm sorry you're having those dreams. I have similar anxiety dreams about my cat, who I basically refuse to believe won't live forever. It's so stressful to wake up from those searching dreams.

We just had to put down Bug, the highly conversational, omnivorous tabby who lived with me in college. He'd been my parents' adopted son since my graduatation (we were unable to get him and @joni's Whiskers to get along under one roof) but has been on a steady decline for the last year or so. I was taking care of him earlier this summer while my folks were in Europe, which was touch and go at times, but he held on long enough to sunset out of this world in the embrace of myself and my Dad. Rough stuff.

Bug was obsessed with human food and definitely over-indulged in his passions by my parents, who doted on him. Every time I visited things got more baroque: "Bug insists on having two raw scallops before dinner," "this is Bug's morning milk dish, it's different from the afternoon one," "save some of that aged Brie for the cat!" I think it may have contributed to the bowel disease that ultimately befell him, but who are we to deny an animal their pleasures?

I'm so sorry, Claire.
It's beautiful to indulge a special pet in their bizarre requests, and I have a very special mental image of this cat's smorgasbord lifestyle. What a good Bug <3

Love to Bug in the next world. He was a good good guy. He loved popsicles and to me that is as good a test of an honest cat as any.
I also want two raw scallops before dinner; should I go live with your parents?

<3 Bug.

I certainly get the special needs cat, cause Benny is a special boy. We cook organic ground turkey from New Seasons and mix it with cooked chicken liver and this special powder supplement: https://www.knowwhatyoufeed.com/alnutri ... lcium.html

Because he almost died when Rad Cat went out of business due to arcane FDA rules and we couldn't get their turkey for him, so he just stopped eating anything at all. We figured we should just try and approximate the recipe. Seems to be working after 4 years and the vet says it sounds like a healthy diet to her. At least we know what's in the food, I suppose.

My Dad went to go pick up Bug's ashes from the vet today and didn't realize until he got home that he had the WRONG PET'S ASHES. Someone out there has Bug's vessel, but we have the remains of the late "Hoagie Gibbs."

omg !!!!! Bug and Hoagie, you rascals!

David's news is that I have started her memorial garden! It's a sweet, shaded area beneath a tree. It has a butterfly bush and lamium, which are endemic to the region I live in. It's a great spot!!

Amidst our lawn backyard is a standalone tree that is a mound without vegetation underneath. This is where me and David parted ways from this world, via incineration. I used a fire hole method, where a separate pit is dug in the ground, with a channel or chimney for air flow, to make the fire hotter than it would be if it were level with the ground. So now, there is like an underground vase with no drainage, and that's what the planting area is. Not sure how well that will go.

The area I live on was infilled after a toxic waste leak. It's clay dirt, not organic soil. I dug about 2x2 feet, it was like chipping away brick. But afterwards I filled it with twigs, loose dirt, organic material, leaves, etc. So it has been about a year of all that stuff in the 2x2 area. Basically I'm trying to build soil!

Give cats the best food!!! Treat them like the daughters of privilege and luxury!!!!
