Where to stay in LA (also a thread of Alexes)
This is wayyyy in advance, but Sasha and I are going to road trip down to LA for her PSU Spring Break to GTFO of Portland for a bit in March. I'll be working remotely. We have been/will be very safe re: COVID and are looking for an inexpensive or free place to stay.
Anybody know of an ADU or spare bedroom type situation?

Re: Where to stay in LA (also a thread of Alexes)
Should we just use this thread to discuss notable Alexes from history?
First famous Alex who comes to mind is Alex Shulgin, commonly known to his friends as Sasha, a biochemist most famous for introducing MDMA into psychopharmaceutical use, and author of one of the great books of this tripper's canon, PiHKAL: A Chemical Love Story...

Is it bad that Alex Jones was the first famous Alex that came to mind? Fuck that dude.
Here's the first famous Alex

It's crazy that he died/was poisoned at 32. He did so much war so young!

Looks like it’s real close to the freeway! But for a short visit that might be more of a feature than a bug

Booked it! Going to be in LA from March 22-26. Let's social distance, Angelenos?
Socially distanced Guerrilla Happy Hour in somebody's yard where kmikeym and I Square cash you a dollar per glass of wine you drink? I dunno.

Re: Where to stay in LA (also a thread of Alexes)
Also I have a question about LA: Why are places like Silverlake/Glassell Park etc sometimes referred to as "East LA" when they are north, and sometimes even west, of downtown? Shouldn't the areas EAST of downtown be East LA?
Update just found this:

Re: Where to stay in LA (also a thread of Alexes)
East/West is highly contentious! Generally speaking "Eastside" really just means "gentrified neighborhoods that are East-ish," i.e. Silverlake, Echo Park, Highland Park, Glassell, Atwater, etc. Sometimes also referred to (by real estate agents) as NELA, Northeast LA.
As this LAist article correctly points out actual East LA long predates this more casual "Eastside" nomenclature.
West is also confusing because "West LA" is a neighborhood (boundaries unofficial, but basically Sawtelle zones bisected by the 405?) distinct from the larger Westside, which is (also contentious) West of the 405 or La Cienega.
LA is big
