Anyone getting more into woodwinds?

Post by Regular_Yaris »

One thing I've been up to lately is playing woodwinds again. I got my alto clarinet re-padded, and I started playing flute, which is so hard to do.

Anyone else getting back into tooting?

On a related note, been jamming this record a lot: https://www.discogs.com/Eduardo-M-Kohan ... se/1718912

Not playing, but I’ve been finding baroque woodwind concerti more compelling than usual. Gimme them deeply acoustic analog vibes

What are you listening to?

I always get really excited when there's a little bit of featured recorder on the back end of a Telemann record or something, but I can't seem to find recordings that are just like hardcore baroque winds.

Although I don't try that hard tbh. I keep hoping I'll stumble into some cool irc channel or something that is just for historical performance toots or something and they'll just fill me in.

I think there was some primal part of my brain that was like "oh cool, if this is the end of the world I can totally play these weird monosynths without electricity" but then another part of my brain is like "holy SHIT this is the least COVID-19 safe musical instrument, just like a full on droplet cannon, I can never play this in public again".

Yeah at our last in-person faculty meeting the conductor of the wind ensemble was marveling about how he’d never in his life perceived how “disgusting” wind ensemble is until this situation suddenly made it leap into relief for him. “Spit is EVERYWHERE”

There are so many! JSB Brandenburg 4 is delightful:

All those dudes wrote copious recorder concerti. Vivaldi e.g:

Baroque concerti is the main baroque vibe I’ve been hitting. They are so soothing to me. Like a river that just goes on and on. Love that woody-ass recorder timbre

We did a cover of a Scout Niblett song and absentee Dismantle board member robo played a mean recorder on it in homage to Florian Schneider:
