I also heartily recommend wearing perfume! I stopped for a long time, thinking “what’s the point?” but then remembered that perfume is for you, not for other people.

I bought some fancy room spray early in the quarantine, but have found putting a little bon parfumeur 602 on myself to be more elegant and mood elevating.

Can we hear more about the room spray?
Maybe some day I’ll mature beyond my array of Mrs. Meyers sprays.
Hair update: my hair looks like the awkward 60’s hair where it’s just grown-out 50’s haircut with no layering or movement. Like some kind of rejected Monkee.

Welcome to the board, nicholastg!
Scents are important, friends, in all forms: incense, candles, perfumes, room sprays, face mists! I've been making myself a little face mist recently that's a mix of aloe vera juice, witch hazel, and orange blossom water. Extremely mood elevating. I go hard before every Zoom call—makes me feel good and makes me look radiant. Incidentally, were you all familiar that there's an "improve my appearance" setting on Zoom? I tried it for a Zoom panel discussion the other day. Just an extremely light zit filter. Every day we get closer and closer to that thing from Infinite Jest where everybody wears masks on video phone calls!

I did yoga in the red lipstick and then someone face-timed me, so it went to good use. Gonna start wearing it more often, thanks for the encouragement : )
Perfume is the best. I still wear perfume most days. Currently wearing a sample of Roja Diaghilev because it smells like an ancient powdery fancy lady which seemed Halloween appropriate. What other perfumes do people like?
I like balredo bal d'afrique. It smells like hot marigolds, but it just doesn't last. I wear acqua di parma, commes des garcon white, some basic gardenia/white flower ones, le labo oud 27 which smells almost too bodily and rank but I kind of like weird ones. Love so many, samples are my friend.

I’ve worn Diptyque “L’Ombre Dans L’Eau” for years and years. It’s a light, minerally scent that I literally just discovered (from Googling) is blackcurrant and rose.
At airports I always spray Comme Des Garçons “Wonderwood” onto myself, which is a vetiver-dominant men’s fragrance that has an unusual quality to it I’ve never quite been able to place.
I kinda want to get into a more classic perfume-y perfume. I always liked Thierry Mugler “Alien” and Issey Miyake “L’eau D’Issey.” My mom wore the latter when I was growing up. I love the scent but I’m slightly allergic to it, I think? It always makes me sneeze.

In the book I'm reading she talks about how ingrained the scent of her mother's Shalimar is in her memories. Shalimar seems legendary. I have a few mils of another classic Guerlain, Mitsouko. One thing about those super old classics is that they got copied so much that to me they smell cheesy or something. Mitsouko has that very talc powder smell that makes me think of perfume samples in magazines from the 90s. Or rifling through my grandmother's bathroom drawers.
I wear a Diptyque regularly - Eau Duelle. It's a pretty basic vanilla musk but it gets the most compliments. I feel like their scents are solid crowd-pleasers.
Minerally sounds fun. I'd like to smell like the ocean. I tried this one
https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Jor ... 55194.html with "oyster" as a note, but it is wasn't very funky.
ooops Bal D'afrique is Byredo, not Balredo.
I would join a perfume club.

Perfume always seemed like a frivolous expense to me, like handbags, until I moved to Belgium and get trained by a lifelong single Belgian man in his 60s. He collected perfume and would bring a different one to work each day and have me smell them and try to pick out what I was smelling. He was excited because I was oddly decent at it. I realized how delightful it is to indulge in smells in a way we usually reserve for taste or touch or sight.
I have a bottle of Eau de Cartier Essence de Bois Cartier which is unisex and woody and bright. I also remain faithful to The Body Shop's white musk. I think partly because my friends had it in middle/high school but it was nothing I would have been allowed to indulge in then. Now when I wear it I literally smell like every man's first girlfriend and it is at times Jarring, which is also kind of amusing to experience. There is a Keil's scent I also like that I am just learning is discontinued called fig leaf & sage, which is also unisex and very green. Both the Kiels and the white musk are at their best when they have installed themselves into a sweater or scarf a few wears after spraying.
The real tragedy here is that my buddy korn is bummed out by all of the smells (unless they are deeply settled into re-worn things), so I generally only spritz when leaving the house.

It is a thing.
Same gentleman gifted me a half-empty bottle of Tsar by Van Cleef & Arpels which is a masculine scent which, once mixed with the smell of body, makes you just wanna growl. Just gave myself a secret lil spritz.

I love perfume, conceptually, but most of it gives me a headache. I can wear stuff that has fewer elements, usually, especially if it's more essential oil based. So many good smells in the world that I LOVE but can't have around me all day long. I'm hyper sensitive to light and sound too, so basically just a giant baby

Olo is mostly what I wear! I have also worn Keihl's musk, it's a real classic- soft but not too powdery.

I love some Van Cleef perfumes but haven't smelled Tsar! My wish list of samples is growing...
I wish perfumes did not hurt you meadows, but essential oils are also so nice. I have a gardenia oil I bought in Hawaii three years ago and I dole out a dab when I want to be taken away. What oils lack in longevity they make up in pure good smell.
I used to wear many small rings and now i mostly wear none. Probably because when working at home I was always popping out to garden or clean something and it just seemed impractical? I put some back on this week, but tentatively. I think perfume and good shoes is where it's at.

Essential oils, perfume and incense are part of my daily routine--nothing else grounds me so quickly in the present!
The scent I like to keep close to my face is a good old Egyptian Musk. I have a few formulations... my favorite is supposedly the brand Caroline Bissette wore in her club days ;-p. I also like to make my own body moisturizer, with different oil ratios depending on the season, and I throw in some essential oil to give me a background scent.
I have one friend who is a super smeller or something. We met on livejournal but the first time we met in person she smelled amazing and had a variety of oils and perfumes in her purse. Over the years she has been my scent guru.
I wonder if this perfume Armani White is similar to the unisex musk scents you are talking about. It was the first perfume I ever bought, I still love it, but sadly it's all gone and I have to fork over a few hundred to buy it off ebay. Sad! Sad! sad!!
Love fragrantica to learn about perfumes. The best part is scent-heads saying "if you like this one, try X"

God, I LOVE reading perfume reviews and searching those websites for perfumes that smell like my favorite flowers. I need to go to perfume house and smell a bunch of stuff and see if there's anything I can actually wear... I want something early spring: hyacinth, bluebell, lily of the valley, daffodil, grass, dirt, worms.

I find that stuff smells really different (much better) after it has lived on your body all day and gotten all briney. Shopping would be hard if not for Frank. If you like green garden smell, I have one tiny bottle that I bought at one of those mix your own favorite perfume places (is that just a thing over here?) that is just green tomato and nothing else. It smells good and I use it solely as the scent for my homemade deodorant.

Listen, I am a patchouli die hard, but have lately been adding a layer of rose (both essential oils) on top & to me there is truly nothing better. Most scents turn VERY sweet on me & for that reason I cannot wear anything that has even a tiny whisper of vanilla because I automatically smell like a cookie & that will never be my vibe.
I occasionally dabble in Tom Ford’s Oud as one layer, usually with cedar wood oil over it. Often do the same with Nasomatto’s Black Afgano.
Love the tiiiiiiiiiiniest drop of vetiver, but it gets quite sharp.
Obsessed with Le Labo’s Gaiac 10, which I have as a sample only (one of their city scents, released only in Tokyo, sadly for me).
I love perfume SO MUCH.

p.s. When wearing patchouli I often get asked “are you wearing patchouli? It smells SO GOOD!” which I take as a sign that I am doing something right.

RCH The room sprays I got were the luxury priced variety pack from Aesop. It includes 3 scents, my favorite is "Cythera" and I don't really care for "Istros." Also have some Japanese incense sticks that I burn, but only occasionally as my home is small and the smoke can be a bit much. I think the next step on my journey is to head to the Diptyque store on Larchmont for an autumn/winter candle.

Goodwill black cashmere crew over an undyed 3/4 hemp tee, light torn jeans, sheepskin slippers, a layer of dust from crawling around under my boss' desk messing with cords, a smatter of rain, no makeup, still on my Diaghilev perfume sample, a sapphire ring my mom gave me for my 18th birthday, a craggy gold band with black enamel my mom gave for me for I don't know why. Thank you mom.
Earlier I wore my favorite coat and nicest black loafers. I had to go "downtown".

I shaved my head again, which is a fun way of refreshing your wardrobe: it makes all your brutal outfits look even more brutal and it makes anything feminine look aggressively '90s. Mostly I'm wearing turtlenecks, oversized tees, and Blundstones. I feel really cozy but I think I look alarming to bystanders. Who cares though!

Cool! You definitely have the chic factor to pull off hair minimalism Claire.
I’m wearing a long sleeve Ween shirt under a Blazers sleeveless. I took my neighbor Steve to the Head shed because he is looking for a ring to play the guitar with, and the cashier said he was a fan of Damian Lillard. It warmed the salty cockles of my heart!

Oh lots of underwear fun!
This all got started cause I got myself a few Arq cropped tanks for working out and then I got deep into organizing my exercise clothes and then somehow everything else in my life, including sad underwear drawer. It's full of old cheap GAP bikinis and then things too weird/fancy to wear regularly. The Arq tanks are nice for small-chested people who can get away with a tight tank as bra.
I've worn a thong a handful of times in all my life. I'm guessing you just get used to it, but I haven't felt inspired to! I have a few very 90s looking calvin klein cotton ones and those seem chill as far as thongs go. I tend to wear bikini or high waist, haven't done much in the boxers.
These all look nice, thank you!

Molly your lingerie is fabulous! Sally thank you for the link, these are also fabulous. Marijke, gotta have a comfortable thong to finish a form-fitting, no-VPL dress!
I should probably learn how to make my own bra. Where should I start? Is that even legal? If anyone knows of good lines for larger sizes let me know.
FACT: I buy the generic 12-packs of black bikini briefs. In the past, I liked some of the dept. store brands at Nordstrom Rack, Natori, Chantal, weirdly there was a great line of "CK Jr." type lingerie, very colorful and sporty.

I wish I were inclined to sewing! Making your own soft bra seems like it would rule. Fabric choice, fit, and cost all improved. I find it really annoying that soft bras usually come in S, M L sizes instead of more variety, because I'm always in between.
