No and no.
ANOTHER HINT: It's a very specific kind of comedy. Its peers would have you wearing your BIRTHDAY SUIT to an NRA meeting that you had to take a recently BAILED-OUT mode of transport through the atmoSPHERE into SPACE.

It's VAL KILMER's first movie! He did so many stunts and underwater scenes and dance scenes and just wanted everyone to know how hard he was trying.

INSERT MUSIC PROFESSOR MONOLOGUE
I don't know whether it's fake or not but I do just want to note that there were more women instrumentalists in rock n roll than history has told us to believe! Bo Didley's main guitarist was a woman named Norma Jean Wofford a.k.a. "The Duchess," e.g. (she sang as part of his backup group--the classic identically-dressed synchronized women going "doo wop" or whatever, but The Duchess would also be noodling on the guitar the whole time. Looked very cool):
Here's really fun footage of the band playing live. Gets really fun around 2:30:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeZHB3ozglQ
A lot of those early rock n roll guys cited Sister Rosetta Tharpe as an influence--gospel preacher who shredded on the guitar while preaching. She was a huge influence on Chuck Berry, Elvis, Little Richard, et al:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xzr_GBa8qk
In fact the blues itself was originally more associated with women than with men. Not just the "queens"--the great singers like Bessie Smith and Ma Rainey--but also guitarists like Memphis Minnie (who co-wrote "When the Levee Breaks," one of the blues songs Led Zeppelin later covered). In fact I can't remember which male blues artist it was but I think it was Blind Lemon Jefferson--on his first album the label put a promotional sticker that says "plays the blues as good as a woman!" It was later white hipster bros in the 50s who recreated the historical idea of the blues as being all about solo wandering male genius guitarists; in the actual 1920s it was very much a bi-gendered affair.
Jazz also, lots of female instrumentalists who were considered legendary, also some female BANDLEADERS, even back in the 20s--like not just instrumentalists but actually the boss of the whole affair. Lil Hardin ran her own jazz band before she married Louis Armstrong. It was a bunch of guys in tuxes, then Lil Hardin on piano yelling instructions and pointing out people to take solos, just like Duke Ellington. Fun!
Anyway I don't know what movie this is!

Thank you for the correction and lesson! In fact, I'm a big fan of old pre-war blues and have entire records (plural!) of ladies bluesing about straight-up boning. I hope I am mistaken about this movie's fakeness!

Lol! I'm sure you're not wrong. Also I didn't mean it to be a correction, I mean, it's not like women were constant presences on the rock n' roll stage so your initial observation is not off base. I literally just like to take any opportunity to post pics of The Duchess.
I don't know why I think this but is this movie Wild At Heart??? And if not, can someone tell me why I think that

Maybe you think it is Wild at Heart because of this?

It’s more connected to the vibe of the film still than a visual likeness, but there are moments of similarity in Nic Cage’s facial expressions.

I think this movie is not fake!
Re: Guess The Movie

by Evan.V.N.S.J.
Some tips:
-Not fake
-It is, however, not really like a 'hollywood' thing, so that might explain why the cast is marginally more diverse for its day.
-When I saw this, I got verrrry big Nic Cage vibes from the lead actor too. He would be my #1 choice if it ever got remade
And a very big hint if you're "in the know":
Frank Zappa

I wanted to say a late fifties or early sixties film but the Zappa clue threw me off the scent.
