DISMANTLE WHARF

Our neighborhood skate park just hosted a full-on punk show. Kids were throwing around a COVID piñata and shooting off smoke bombs. Maybe 200 people skateboarding and a bunch of hardcore bands making the best of an intermittent generator situation. Masking maybe at 25%, pretty reckless energy, and I know it wasn't safe but it was the most hopeful I've felt in months...?

Maybe it’s cause we’re all home, but man how are there so many neighbors?! They’re everywhere.

Due south is a young couple - have not seen her in months. He is so shy it seems painful for him to look in our direction. But all of the dwellers in my house wanna be their friends because their cats are named Zizek and Barthes and he reads on the porch all day and bikes everywhere and they seem to like games.

I heard my other neighbor cheer when RBG died. Her husband is my true neighbor enemy; we are deep in an unpleasant Cold War since he straight lost his mind over a fence situation a few years ago. He’s been cleaning leaves off the roof in the rain.

One of the seemingly 18 people who live in the apartment across the street moved out today.

I miss having friendly neighbors, this spot has a weird vibe. Snoop dog’s uncle Reo lived next to me until a few years back, he was the best neighbor. Helped me with my Christmas lights every year, would mow my front lawn while I was at work cause I let him park his giant smoker in front of the house, and would daily regale me with the funniest, most ridiculously embellished stories. I miss Reo.

Last night after the Dodgers won the world series our neighbors went out on their front porch and screamed for half an hour. They also blasted Randy Newman’s “I Love LA” out at the street. Fireworks were going off everywhere. We went out in the street and danced a little and yelled “whoooo!” at our neighbors even though we didn’t watch the game.

That right there is peak living.

quick Dodgers story: the only time I made it to Dodgers stadium was on Seinfeld night in May 2019 and Wayne Knight aka NEWMAN was there. do celebs get paid for these kinds of appearances?

I always wondered! I think at the very least they get free tickets, right? Was Billy Crystal really dropping full price for courtside Clippers tickets all those years?

I saw the Dodgers once in approximately 1995. I was THERE, man.

My neighbor Steve is happy with his new electric acoustic Groetsch—he says it sounds “jazzy.” He is very anxiously awaiting the results of his biannual blood panels to ensure the Hepatitis hasn’t returned. He paralyzed one of his vocal cords last December and now he’s worried it could be a rare illness. He’s disappointed he harvested his licensed plants before the buds really developed—he gets scared of thieves every year. He’s a worrier.

I dont really care what color your eyes are. We've got a new neighbor! The family that lives next door rents out a cheap upstairs apartment, and it's seen some turnover in the last year. The most recent tenant (we call them all "The Lodger") just moved out after a whirlwind six months of listening to talk radio in his car in the driveway, and our new guy just started moving his stuff in today. He just drove 30 hours from Ohio and he has a houseplant named Charlie. He seems nice and cool!

He is diving head first into a new 2021 life. Kudos to you, lodger.
