I was super excited that my green zebra tomato plant was looking lush and giant, but now all the fruits have blossom end rot. Google accuses me of inconsistent watering which is TOTALLY TRUE (ouch). I don't know what I am doing! I don't know how to water a tomato plant! Please, can somebody tell me ...

Two bird-adjacent recommendations! 1. Wingspan (board game). We just got this and it's very complicated, so I can't really report on the gameplay itself, but it's aesthetically delightful - beautiful bird cards to collect, and tiny wooden eggs, and a little birdhouse you build for the dice. 2. The g...

I mean, it's not a recipe, but you could saute the onions until slightly caramelized, add the chopped chard stems and cook a few minutes longer, then add corn kernels and chopped chard leaves, cooking until just done. I'd use that as a taco or empanada filling any day...especially if you can get you...

So, my general take on how to have non-smelly towels is: wash on hot, and make sure it is hung in a way that lets it dry thoroughly after each use (e.g. with good ventilation and not bunched up). I know washing in hot water is terribly unfashionable these days, but I still do it for towels and bedli...

Botulism can't grow in an acidic environment (lower than 4.6 pH), so jams, quick pickles, and fermented foods should be fine. You DO need to add lemon juice to tomatoes to get them into the safe zone. Where you need to be worried about botulism is if you're full on homesteader style putting up low-a...
