What is one thing you won't take for granted after this?

Post by sashaburchuk »

They made it illegal to visit either side of the Gorge or any State or National Forest in Oregon so I can't go for hikes unless I want to drive to Steen's Mountain which is BLM land.

A couple of weeks ago, when we knew shelter in place was coming but hadn't been quasi-announced yet. My partner Anna and I walked to the post office where I did a safe drop off of items for my business, and then we went to a food cart and ate burritos in the park.
We practiced as much social distancing as you can using a food cart, and ate in the sun. It was epic.

I've never been a hugger, per se, but I miss a hug.

+1 on the hikes, libraries, and hugs. but to add another: as someone who lives alone, I can't wait to eat a meal for which I am not responsible for doing the dishes.

One thing that’s tripping me out right now is remembering traveling. I wouldn’t say I miss it yet but I do keep having these moments like, “wow remember when we were in BRIGHTON ENGLAND two months ago??” or like “wow one time I got drunk on caipirinhas in Sao Paolo”

It all feels fake & impossible

I feel very lucky I got to see so much of the world...who knows if/when we will travel for leisure or work again?

yeah weirdly felt distance pangs for being in transit in a transport depot -- waiting for a plane and watching masses of souls fretting towards various deadlines, scoping people wearing their traveling best, deeply mediocre caesar salads.

of course echoing claire - destinations other than my backyard or the store sound soooo delicious, but i'm thirsty for the process.

Taking a special trip out of the house to go to a specific speciality store to buy a single solitary item that I can absolutely go without.

God, remember when you could just squeeze half a lime into your friend's drink with your teeth? Now I get stressed watching groups of people together in movies that were made before I was even born.

I miss kissing friends on the lips. I don't miss ever being expected to go to an office. If offices are real in the future I'll miss hanging out with my freak on a leash every day.

I miss being able to strike up a lil casual conversation with someone out in the world. Nothing fancy, just like a "hot enough for ya??" situation. Shooting the shit. Now I feel so masked-up & fraught that every interaction with a human being feels like a stickup.

I had a park hang with my improv team recently and as I was greeting them I had these weird, unbidden physical memories of hugging them. Like, the psychic sensation of embracing each of their bodies, and remembering so clearly how each of them felt mid-hug.

I miss hugging.

I miss having stress dreams about anything other than being out in the world and other people are not wearing masks and getting way too close to me.
