I love the slightly avant-garde Uniqlo stuff that's ALWAYS on the sale rack because who buys it?

Today: Giant Bernie Sanders "Rage Against the Machine" t-shirt, an odd pair of red polyester shorts I bought deadstock at an antique mall in the Valley, white socks pulled up high, black Nike Cortezes and a black baseball cap I'm ashamed to say I bought from the APPLE GIFT STORE at One Infinite Loop, Cupertino. It's a perfectly fitted sporty black cap with no discernible branding save for a tiny black Apple logo.

I bought a bunch of bright colored eyeliners and have been spicing things up with a green, yellow, lavender, or baby blue eye. Even if I don't really get dressed in any formal way it feels fun and like an easy way to be present and alive.
I'm very bad at drawing the line but I decided that it just doesn't matter and I'm gonna live laugh love etc!

For about the first month of quarantine I was all about the sweatsuit life- heather gray on top and bottom was most satisfying, but soft, pilly cotton of any color was what mattered. I made Zoom call adjustments (aka new-looking sweatshirts) when needed, and I changed into workout sweats to work out. It was basically my favorite part of quarantine. Suddenly, about a week ago, I started wearing my regular clothes again. I just missed them. I've even started wearing jewelry again, which had obviously gone to the wayside on day one. I have continued to wear lipstick every day because that is my way, but now I'm considering adding eye makeup, which is not part of my normal day to day life.

I don't know if it's staring at my own image in Zoom calls all day, or just a hunger for change, but I'm getting "fancier?"

I firmly believe that beauty, grooming, and glamour are self-care. In this economy??

Sarah, let us know how your eye decoration practice goes! I have been wanting to wear a classic turquoise or powder blue eyeshadow, but... naught is to be found in the retail halls. It's like no one is making single eye shadows, only big palettes. It feels very recession-like, basics only. The gxrls are playing it safe.

I'm wearing eyeliner now too, and also putting in my contacts sometimes???
I do think staring at your own face in Zoom is alienating in a specific way where you are like, damn, I'm gonna put on some eyeliner. That being said, I also do think there is something self-care-y about tending to your appearance even when (perhaps especially when) no one is going to see you. I know I am a famous slob but I do in fact understand and relate to this notion.

I also made my Zoom profile pic a really extreme picture of me holding a skull and roaring with laughter. This pic is what everyone sees when I "mute" my camera in faculty meetings. Characteristically (New England) no one has mentioned it yet.

Does anyone else find Zoom calls uniquely exhausting? I can stare at my computer all day long when I’m working but 30 minutes of a Zoom call and I immediately need to go to bed

I didn't read the article. Is it because it's a gang of people, all of whom are futilely simulating eye contact and physical expression?

My group therapy, usually a 90–120 minute affair, is meeting on Zoom. It's better than nothing but it has a quality that makes me feel ragged. Due to the nature of our fellowship, the written chat happening simultaneously has conversations like "I can't talk out loud, my family is listening."

Whoever can figure out how to make it look like we're looking in each other's eyes is going to make a bazillion MuskBucks in the year 2030

Yes that’s part of it—apparently we have to use way way more energy to read body language and facial information via the video and it saps us more quickly than IRL talking. I can’t remember if they mention the eye contact issue specifically but it’s gotta be part of it. There is other interesting info but that was my main takeaway! It’s draining our batteries much faster than normal talking, at a level we aren’t even aware of. So gross

Wow, that's fascinating. It really is a drain, I'm totally zoomed out from this week!

Eyeliner is still going strong. The ones I like are from Colourpop, which is a suuuuuper cheap brand that only sells online. I think it's mostly discontinued, though, cuz I could only find the fun colors on ebay. Still pretty cheap though, comparatively.
I'm also very, very annoyed by the eye shadow palette trend. I don't want 24 shades of one tone or an assortment of random glittery things, I just want one plain color! Why is it so hard?!

Today I'm wearing bright yellow swim trunks I bought in the CPH airport and a K Records t-shirt Claire dyed with eucalyptus bark we gathered near our house. The shirt looks sorta like I got in a fight at a diner and someone poured a whole orange-spouted pot of decaf on me.

Ok, yourfriendclaire business prop: I lovingly labour over some virgin softened handkerchief weight linen to make the summery zubs of dreams and you pour a whole orange-spouted pot of decaf on them. Then we sell sell sell!

My god, what a business plan. Just spending a FORTUNE on postage so I can get a proper decaf stain. My kingdom for a whole orange-spouted pot of decaf!

These are my favorite jeans because they fit. They came with dumb holes already in them, some rectangular, which eventually got so bad I was basically walking around with fabric hanging all over. I tried for a major patch job (evidence of earlier ones is there) and was so proud of my good enough completion, I went outside to check on my garden and immediately ripped a new hole. And then another. In fact just found another while writing this. But anyway living in these and the karate pants I put large pockets onto made from the karate top that came with.

Image

Also just realized I used the extra karate top for these patches!

Yesterday I wore a green baby doll dress, brown pumps with bows at the toe, my late grandmother's string of mostly violet quartz, black mask, and black gloves, and I was in a very peppy "do not talk to me or my son ever again" mood. The day before I was very "do not look at me or talk to me" in my Gloria Vanderbilt jeans. Who knows what this day will bring!! I don't because it's 2pm and I haven't gotten dressed

Oversized Online Ceramics tie-dyed t, shearling slippers, yoga shorts. I always wear two small gold bracelets to keep it fancy. My hair is long and grown out blonde.

Every sunny afternoon around this house is bikini time. Around 4 the back house tenant and I emerge from our work from home situations to sun our buns and/or swim. The only clothing purchased during quarantine has been bike shorts and multiple bikinis.

I'm wondering what winter wear is going to be like... maybe I'll get into puffy vests? It seems cool to be warm but for your arms to be flopping free. I bought down shorts last year and I really think they are my favorite winter article of clothing... I can walk the dog in the cold mornings without my butt freezing.

m o l l y probably the LA people know more bout Online Ceramics, they're based there. Grateful Dead and other fun shirts. They got some press a few years ago and they seem to sell out quick since then. Mine says "your ego is not your amigo" on the front and "LET GOOOOO NOW" on the back. I don't usually like a word shirt.

I miss red lipstick. Should I just wear it around the house?
