Dessert Fantasia
For desserts that exist or that you wish existed. I’ll go first: NERDS water sorbet. You know when you drop a handful of NERDS in a glass of water? That, but in sorbet form.
Re: Dessert Fantasia
Soooo, not gum?
Re: Dessert Fantasia
strawberry flavored marshmallows!
these probably exist, but I like my imagined version

Re: Dessert Fantasia
Banoffee was a big deal when I lived in Dublin! Never seen it anywhere else! So many noms.
Re: Dessert Fantasia
English people here talked about it at length. But evidently not at length enough; I thought it was a banana/coffee pie for ages and was confused by it. Turns out it was toffee?? Anyway yes, looks amazing. I get it now.
Re: Dessert Fantasia
Seconded: Nerds Water Sorbet
Re: Dessert Fantasia
Does anyone remember the candy party, and making slushies with watermelon sour gummies, ice, and vodka?
That was so good, and so bad.

Re: Dessert Fantasia
CANDY PARTY! Yes, of course! We retell the story of that night kinda often. You and Adam hidjelly beans all over our apartment in such weird places that we found them for MONTHS after Candy Party. Remember how some random people showed up for a while because we left the outside door propped open with a sign that just said "Candy Party in #4?" Also Calvin showed up pretty late into it and was baffled because we were all running around like we were wigged out on coke. But it was just candy. LOTS AND LOTS OF CANDY.
Re: Dessert Fantasia
Was there gum?
Re: Dessert Fantasia
I don't think there was gum! But there was almost everything else... so much candy. It made us crazy.
I loved those random people who came up- they lived in Beaverton and worked with or on PC computers, right? They left with so much weird art stuff like zines, records, etc. It seemed like a truly wild adventure for those guys, who had come into town to "check out the mississippi district".

Re: Dessert Fantasia
I have heard about this in-famous party. Sounds like good innocent fun and a real romp in social/community wealth.
I WANT GOURMET DARK CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER CUPS. Actually just a tub of the t-joes ones. I try to make a pb and honey sandwich on dark chocolate but that shit ain't the same.

Re: Dessert Fantasia
I accidentally bought "cotton candy grapes" and am not really loving it. This surprises me, because I love fruit and have a sweet tooth, and a very strong anthropological interest in hybrid fruits!
But they really do taste like cotton candy in a grape form, and it's pretty gross.
In better sweet news, I procured a pint of cantaloupe ice cream from Lovely's 50 50 and it's maybe one of the best dessert things I've ever eaten. It's both subtle and extremely melon. I don't really love cantaloupe but it is SO GOOD- if you're in PDX I strongly recommend. Also, very soothing to frayed nerves.

Candy Party was cute!
I LOVE adding Nerds as a mix-in to ice cream. My mouth wants those frozen sour-sugar iceballs. My teeth quivered with fear when I wrote that.

meadows Lovely's has the best ice cream in Portland, hands-down. When we lived by there I would get it a lot. But we stopped eating in there cause SO MANY SCREAMING BABIES AT ALL HOURS, so we'd get our za and ice cream to go.
Speaking of candied grapes, I just read about this place:
https://www.wweek.com/restaurants/2020/ ... ndy-crush/
Speaking of desserts, we got the best cannoli ever from Cibo here in Portland. Per Sasha's Google review, "Had a wildfire-induced meltdown and ordered a pizza and a cannoli from Cibo's last night as an act of self-care and OMG THAT CANNOLI!!!. It was unbelievably good. It was absolutely the best cannoli I've ever had. It did not end the pandemic or put out the fires out it tasted miraculous and while I was eating it I was able to forget about those things and focus on how perfect that dessert was."

That cantaloupe ice cream came and went so fast from Lovely's but I also happily scored a pint and it's just as good as Smelly says!

Re: Dessert Fantasia
I was recently gifted an abundance of passion fruit, so I halved them, scooped out the pulp of a couple dozen, blitzed them in the blender to loosen the seeds up, then strained the pulp through a sieve. Mixed that with simple syrup, froze it until half-solid, blended that, re-froze it, and ended up with some very decent passion fruit sorbet. Served it in little goblets with vanilla ice cream. Nature’s gifts!
Re: Dessert Fantasia
My jaw is on the floor!
Melon desserts are one of my secret favorites that I only get when I go to Asian markets. I want Lovely's to mail me some, at no cost to myself.
